There are three pro-gun bills of interest to California gun owners.  Senate Bill 610 would create a standard for the concealed carry permit application process, Assembly Bill 613 would remove the unconstitutional language of Assembly Bill 962 and Assembly Bill 1402 would make a technical clean-up of California’s deadly weapons laws.

SB 610, a much-needed reform for California’s concealed carry permit application process, passed in the Senate Public Safety Committee this week by a 4 to 1 vote.  Introduced by state Senator Rod Wright (D-Inglewood), SB 610 would standardize the application process for a license to carry a concealed handgun and correct several             inconsistencies in the application of the current law.

SB 610 has been assigned to the Senate Appropriations Committee and the NRA will keep you posted on the status of this bill.

The Assembly Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hear two bills that would clean-up superfluous and redundant language in California’s gun laws.   AB 1402 is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee this Tuesday, April 12.  This bill is a much-needed technical clean-up for California’s confusing gun laws regarding deadly weapons.

On April 26, the Assembly Public Safety Committee is also scheduled to hear AB 613.   This crucial bill would remove all the anti-gun language from AB 962, which was enacted in 2009, in California’s gun statutes.  Funded by the NRA and the California Rifle and Pistol Association, a lawsuit was filed and the Fresno County Superior Court found AB 962 unconstitutional earlier this year.  The Court then issued a permanent injunction, which prevents the state and its agents from enforcing the provisions of AB 962 (Penal Code sections 12060, 12061, and 12318).  Even though the provisions of AB 962 cannot be enforced, this detrimental language needs to be removed from the books.

Please call and e-mail members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and urge them to support cleaning up California’s gun laws by voting for AB 1402 and AB 613. Contact information for the Assembly Public Safety Committee can be found below.
