The media are notorious for their coddling of liberal, anti-gun politicians. None receives more delicate care than Hillary Clinton. Her “town hall” meetings are carefully stocked with partisans that will ask only safe questions. At a recent CNN event, one questioner took things a bit further; Don’t just ask an easy question, but ask something that will take Ol’ Hill in a safe direction. This is actually a very smart move on the questioner’s part. Rather than lobbing a standard softball, she set Hillary up with a T-ball stand.

And Hillary whiffed it anyway.

Vashitta Johnson tried her best to stir Hillary away from guns and onto the topic of gang violence. But Ol’ Hill wouldn’t have any of it. She heard the word “shooting” and she was off to the races. Instead of taking the out that was politely offered to her, Hillary could only see the subject as another way to express her hatred of American gun owners. So while she could have said something constructive, she chose to look like an idiot by blaming law abiding gun owners, sellers, and manufacturers for the actions of inner city gangs.

That’s a bit like blaming sewing machine makers for Hilary’s penchant for wearing Mao suits in public.

As most of you probably know, Senator Bernie Sanders (C-Vermont) once positioned himself as a friend to gun owners. He wasn’t really much of a friend. The highest the NRA ever rated him was C- for one election cycle. He’s generally been an F-rated candidate. But then Hillary Clinton (D-Pending Indictment) began to hammer him on some of his pro-gun votes; most recently his support of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. Bernie began to walk back what little support he once gave to the 2nd Amendment.

But at last night’s Democrat debate, Bernie started to walk back his walk back. He decided not to board the crazy train with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Hillary Clinton…

Sanders, given a chance to respond, said, “Look, what happened at Sandy Hook, what happened in Michigan, what has happened far too often all over this country is a terrible, terrible tragedy, and we have got to do everything we can, as I mentioned a moment ago, to end these mass killings.

“But, as I understand what your question is — and, you’re not the only person whose heart was broken. I know, I was there in the Senate when we learned about this killing. It is almost unspeakable to talk about some lunatic walking into a — I mean; it is hard to even talk about it.

“We all feel that way. But it, as I understand it, Anderson, and maybe I’m wrong, what you’re really talking about is people saying let’s end gun manufacturing in America. That’s the implications of that, and I don’t agree with that.”

Ol’ Bern has said in the past that he wants to protect gun sellers from frivolous lawsuits, not manufacturers. He’s backing off from that now (or rather, getting back to where is was in 2005) since that protection scheme would end small arms manufacturing in the US. And as we’ve mentioned before, that is in fact a goal of the Sandy Hook lawsuit.

Bernie fans must be getting a little berned out by now.

Not that it matters to gun owners, but Hillary is a few days away from locking up the Democrat nomination. With her results in South Carolina and Nevada, and the superdelegates, she’s about to snuff the other old commie’s fire. So if she can win in November, I wonder what her first act as President will be. A pardon for herself? An executive order commanding that all female government workers wear pantsuits? Send Bernie Sanders to Gitmo?

News Politics

Grab some popcorn. A new Reuter’s poll has found that Hillary’s lead over the other aging Commie has been erased. The poll shows her leading Товарищ Bernie Sanders 48-45% ±5%. This is a poll of 512 adults.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Given the margin of error, Sanders could be leading 50-43%. But it gets worse for Cankles.
  • Pollsters call land lines. How many young, “Feel the Bern” voters do you think have land lines?! The poll probably undercounted Sanders supporters by a large margin.
  • This is an “adults” poll rather than a “registered voters” or “likely voters” poll. Sanders supporters are very motivated and engaged. They will make the effort to actually turn out for the Ol’ Marxist. The “adults” that support Hillary probably won’t.

The panic is growing.

News Politics

The Brady Campaign is in the bag for Hillary Clinton. Brady president Dan Gross has been bashing Bernie Sanders on her behalf for his old positions on gun rights. Gross ignores the fact that the old Commie has long since thrown law abiding Vermonters under the bus. But then again, Gross is easily confused.

Take, for example, his repeated claims that “Brady background checks have blocked more than 2.4 million gun sales to prohibited purchasers like convicted violent criminals, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill.” But as John Lott points out, nearly all of these “blocked” sales later went through.

In 2010, the last year that the Department of Justice’s annual report on the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was released, it showed that 94 percent of “initial denials” were dropped after the first internal fact check. A 2004 review by Congress found that another two percent were dropped when the cases were sent out to BATFE field offices. Many more cases were dropped during the three remaining stages of review.

So in reality, roughly 84,000 sales were stopped since November of 1998. During the same period, there were over 228,000,000 NICS checks that were not rejected. So the great success Gross touts is a rejection rate of .04%. Math was involved, as well as a Google search, so I’m sure you understand how confusing this must have been for him.

Something else that confuses Dan is The Onion. He doesn’t seem to understand that it’s a parody site and not a news outlet. And to think that he’s convinced that he knows more about guns than we do.

The government cannot “buy back” what it didn’t sell in the first place. It can only confiscate…

If you go and look at the comments on the video, you’ll see a lot of Aussie liberals with their knickers in a thorough twist. I don’t quite get it. They asked to be a nation of defenseless victims and now they’re bent about being called a nation of defenseless victims. Nevertheless, the state-run Australian Broadcasting Company posted this article quoting Australian gun owners saying that the video is an accurate depiction of what did happen in Oz.

Shooters Union Queensland vice president David Brown said the video was entirely accurate and that the 20-year-old information was still relevant.

“Factually the video is correct … it’s not the NRA that has drawn Australia into the conversation about gun ownership, it’s Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton,” Mr Brown said.

“Our union supports the laws for safe use and correct storage of firearms and the NRA in fact promotes that same message.”

Their government’s priorities remain at odds with the actual needs of its citizens and their safety.

[Brown] said Australian politicians should invest resources into tackling the root of problems spawning from organised crime gangs, mental health concerns and violence instead of “harassing farmers with gun licences”.

“There should be less focus on red tape for law-abiding firearm owners and more focus on crime gangs, drugs and giving help to people with mental illness rather than picking on farmers,” he said.

“People can commit murder no matter what weapon they use.”

The deadliest Obama scandal, Operation Fast and Furious, has been simmering for months now. Congressman Darrell Issa’s investigation has been getting stonewalled by the Administration and former AG Eric Holder, who oversaw the program, has since returned to life as a Beltway Bandit. But the arrest of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman threatens to move the scandal off of the back burner.

When Mexican Marines caught up to Guzman (Tacos and Sean Penn were involved. I’m not making this up!), they recovered a .50 BMG rifle at the house where he was hidingEl Chapo's fiddyWanna take a guess where this particular rifle came from? You got it; Operation Fast and Furious. This was one of at least 34 .50 BMG firearms that the BATFE allowed to “walk” into Mexico. For those who don’t remember, this operation was supposed to catch gun runners taking guns into Mexico. There was, however, one problem: BATFE agents had no way of tracking the guns once they crossed the border. Perhaps it didn’t occur to them that the other side of the border is Mexico, and not the US, and that their jurisdiction ends at said border.

That theory, as attractive as it sounds, isn’t plausible. How do we know this? The agents involved are able to dress themselves. Were they really that stupid, they’d be showing up to work wearing Garanimals. Which means, of course, that their actions were deliberate.

So why would the Obama Administration allow firearms like this .50 BMG rifle to get into the hands of Mexican drug cartels? The theory I find more believable is that they were ginning up the “iron river of guns” that Hillary and others have been babbling about for years. Robert Farago at The Truth About Guns thinks that this particular seizure adds credence to an alternative theory: That the US was arming the Sinaloa cartel in their fight against the Los Zetas cartel. In either case, US officials didn’t seem to care that these same rifles were being turned on Mexican law enforcement. There are reports that the Sinaloa cartel was using them against drug surveillance helicopters piloted by Mexican police. Perhaps both theories explain the Administration’s actions. One motivation may have conveniently grown from the other.

I’m just having trouble discerning what it might be.

OK… So I’m sitting here scratching my head. You’re probably scratching your head and asking the same question I am: What is he doing?

Throughout his long years in office, Barack Obama has made no secret of his hatred of American gun owners. Almost from day one he’s picked fights with Congress and the Supreme Court over gun control. He’s never passed up an opportunity to demonize the NRA. However, he’s had his limits. He toned it down leading up to his re-election and before the midterm elections. At the time, it looked like he and his advisers were reading the tea leaves correctly; like they understood that support for gun control by the American People might have been a mile wide, but it was only an inch deep. Now, I’m wondering how they went off the rails.

When Obama first came to office, his drive, albeit a weak one, for gun control was understandable as a political tool. For decades, a majority of Americans told pollsters that they supported “stricter gun control laws” and “the assault weapon ban”. They supported gun control in the abstract even if they opposed its specifics. For a liberal Democrat (i.e. a socialist), gun control was a safe bet; a great way to rally the rank and file and to pump up the donors. But, throughout Obama’s tenure the polls have shifted. A majority now oppose gun control. That mile wide, inch deep support has dried up.

So, what’s up with this?

President Obama sat down Monday with top law enforcement officials to review and finalize new executive actions aimed at tightening the country’s gun laws – a push that Republicans on Capitol Hill and the campaign trail are calling a “dangerous” overreach.

The president lit a fire under the gun control debate last week when he and his aides announced White House plans to kick off the new year with executive action on gun rules. Obama met Monday afternoon with Attorney General Loretta Lynch, FBI Director James Comey and other top officials to work out those plans.

It’s not just the “what” of it, it’s the “when”. When all you have to offer the electorate is two, cranky, old socialists and an unidentified man, now is not the time to remind people that yours is the party of crazy gun grabbers. Obama and his tea leaf readers can’t possibly think that this is a way to keep the White House and regain the Senate. It’s almost as if he’s deliberately trying to scuttle his party in the 2016 elections.

Hence the head scratching.
