Media Promotes Bloomberg Propaganda

A free press is a good thing for America to have. A free press that doesn’t parrot and exaggerate anti-gun propaganda would be even better.

For example, take Natalie DiBlasio’s article for USA Today on Wednesday, titled More kids die in shootings than statistics show. For starters, the title doesn’t even accurately reflect the article’s content. The article concerns the claim by Michael Bloomberg’s gun-control group “Everytown” that some firearm accident deaths among children are mistakenly classified as homicides by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Contrary to the article’s title, Everytown doesn’t claim that the CDC undercounts firearm-related deaths among children in general.

Hickenlooper Re-Reverses Himself on Colorado’s Magazine Ban

Colorado’s Gov. John Hickenlooper, who recently expressed misgivings about signing the state’s 15-round magazine limit into law, now says he supports it again.

In other words, he was for it, before he was against it, before he was for it.

Last week, Hickenlooper said that he signed the magazine ban only for several rather baloneyous reasons. No, “baloneyous” is not a real word, but Hickenlooper’s reasons don’t sound like real reasons.

Federal Court in Colorado Upholds Magazine Ban and Background Check Requirement

This week, Chief Judge Marcia S. Krieger of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado issued a decision in the NRA-supported case of Colorado Outfitters Assoc. v. Hickenlooper. The case seeks to invalidate the burdensome magazine ban and so-called “universal” background check law passed in Colorado last year. The plaintiffs in the case — Colorado sheriffs, individuals, and associations affected by Colorado’s new gun-control laws — raised a number of challenges to these laws but primarily focused on the burdens the laws created on their right to self-defense, which is protected by the Second Amendment.

Bill Passes with Language Delaying Funding of U.N. Arms Trade Treaty

On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee passed the State Foreign Operations bill, containing language prohibiting funds to be used for the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty prior to a full ratification of the treaty by the U.S. Senate. Specifically, section 7061 states: “None of the funds appropriated by this Act may be obligated or expended to implement the Arms Trade Treaty until the Senate approves a resolution of ratification for the Treaty.”

Update on the Obama Administration’s Proposed Ban on the Domestic Sale of Ivory and Importation of Elephant Trophies

In recent Grassroots Alerts, we addressed the Obama administration’s proposal to ban the trade and sale of legally owned ivory within the United States (click here to see the initial alert). The NRA supports efforts to stop poaching and the illegal trade of ivory, but this proposed ban on legally owned ivory sold domestically will have no impact on poaching of elephants and the illegal ivory trade. On the contrary, this ban will only affect honest law-abiding Americans by making their possessions valueless. Please see this New York Times article highlighting the broad spectrum of people who will be harmed by the ban.

Ask Your U.S. Rep. to Oppose Wide-Ranging Gun Control Bill–H.R. 4783

Last week we reported that U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, had introduced what he is calling “the Promoting Healthy Minds for Safer Communities Act of 2014.” In truth, we noted, the bill — H.R. 4783 — is largely composed of gun control measures that mirror, and supplement, acts being pursued in the states by the likes of Michael Bloomberg and his “Everytown” gun control cabal.

Ask Your U.S. Representative to Cosponsor and Support “The Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2013”

The “Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2013” (H.R. 2959)–introduced in the U.S. House by Reps. Richard Nugent (R-Fla.) and Jim Matheson (D-Utah)–would allow any person who is not prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm under federal law and who has a valid concealed firearm permit, to carry a concealed handgun in any state that issues its own residents permits to carry concealed firearms. Persons carrying a handgun in another state pursuant to H.R. 2959 would be subject to the laws of that state with respect to where concealed firearms may be carried. Similar legislation to H.R. 2959 passed the House in 2011 by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 272-154.
